Career Path

Prof. Dr. Adel Mokhtar Al-Maghrabi holds a Ph.D. from Cardiff University, United Kingdom, and an M.Sc. from the University of Dijon, France. He specializes in Plant Molecular Biology and has expertise in plant tissue culture as well as in organizing scientific meetings and conferences.

His research focuses on the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying plant resistance to environmental stresses, aiming to identify key genes that can be targeted to enhance crop resilience.

Research Interests

  • Leading scientific research contributing to sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation in Libya.

  • Principal Investigator of the project “Enhancing Agricultural Productivity to Improve Food Security in Africa”, supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), RAF-5092.

  • Libyan Representative on the Research and Standardization Committee of the International Olive Council (IOC).

  • Chair of the High Committee of the Libyan Observatory for Desert Spatial Development.
