Department of Environmental and Food Sciences and Biotechnological Applications
The department is one of the key scientific divisions of the Libyan Biotechnology Research Center. It focuses on advanced research in the fields of environment, food, and biotechnological applications to enhance health, safety, and sustainable development.
The department conducts studies on water quality, food safety, and environmental factors affecting human and ecosystem health. It also explores the use of biotechnology to address environmental challenges and improve food production and preservation.
The department includes three main research units:
1- Water Research Unit: Performs physical and chemical analyses of water sources to ensure their safety and suitability for use.
2- Food Research Unit: Focuses on assessing food quality, detecting microbial contamination, and developing safe preservation techniques.
3- Environmental Research Unit: Studies pollution sources, evaluates environmental indicators, and proposes biotechnological solutions for ecosystem protection.
The department also supervises postgraduate research and provides specialized training programs for researchers within the center and other institutions
